Verbal Knockout: Pedrosa and Lorenzo’s Brutal Exchange Steals Spotlight from Cancelled Boxing Match
Boxing event called off; Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo engage in fierce verbal exchange
No physical punches were thrown, but the words were harsh and unfiltered
Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo did not engage in a physical altercation; rather, they took seats in a boxing ring and exchanged some harsh truths with one another.
The former MotoGP competitors oddly advertised a boxing match to resolve their long-standing feud.
However, on Thursday evening, the boxing match was delayed.
Rather, Pedrosa and Lorenzo conducted interviews with one another for Spanish television channel DAZN, where they currently contribute to MotoGP coverage.
According to Marca, Pedrosa directly addressed Lorenzo, saying, "With you standing here as my opponent in this ring, I want to understand who I'm up against before the match starts."
"So, my initial question is quite straightforward: can you tell me who you are?"
Lorenzo replied, "You know, I'm naturally inquisitive and highly competitive."
"As a perfectionist with immense ambition, collaborating with me can be quite challenging."
Lorenzo told Pedrosa that their competition with each other is well-known.
"However, was there a moment when you started to despise me?"
Pedrosa responded, "Absolutely, without a doubt."
"There have definitely been times when you were both my main competitor and my primary source of inspiration."
"As a result, I sometimes found myself feeling a strong dislike toward you."
Lorenzo mentioned that although he used to be quite shy and lacking in confidence, he has consistently made efforts to change his mindset into something positive by using books and other methods.
"His initial shyness evolved into overconfidence and arrogance, justifying his fame."
"I've always admired those bold and self-assured personalities and aspired to emulate them: Muhammad Ali, Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mourinho…"
Lorenzo and Pedrosa talk about their famous handshake
The most memorable event in the rivalry between Pedrosa and Lorenzo occurred during the Spanish MotoGP in 2008.
The Spanish monarch insisted that the two adversaries exchange a handshake.
Lorenzo questioned Pedrosa about his reluctance to exchange a handshake.
Pedrosa said to him, "When you joined MotoGP, you spoke poorly about me."
"I prefer to be genuine, and because I didn't appreciate you or your comments about me, I wasn't inclined to share any part of myself with you."
"I felt compelled to shake your hand even though I didn't want to. It didn't feel genuine."
Lorenzo mentioned afterward, "There were many instances when I felt like hitting a competitor, but I was unable to do so."
“If there weren’t any regulations, I would have taken that action.”
Lorenzo expressed his frustration, stating: "I feel very upset when events don't unfold as I had envisioned and the team fails to meet my expectations."
"I become irritated easily and it makes collaborating with me quite challenging."
"I’ve faced numerous tough challenges in life where I had to tackle them head-on and overcome them decisively."
"My relationship with my father, [former manager Dani Amatriain], Marcos, and the Treasury became more complicated when I gained fame in Japan… I often mention that a mother's love is the only one that's truly unconditional. If you're fortunate, you'll find that kind of love from your father too."
"Friendship comes with conditions."
