Conservative Member of Parliament Craig Mackinlay has disclosed that he underwent amputation of both his hands and feet following a sepsis infection last year.
The representative for South Thanet is set to resume duties in parliament this Wednesday, following an eight-month absence due to a hospital emergency.
He informed his voters in December that he had been diagnosed with sepsis in September 2023 and was subsequently put into a medically induced coma due to multiple organ failures.
Mr. Mackinlay expressed his gratitude for surviving and mentioned that he underwent significant surgery due to his illness.
As he prepared for his return to the House of Commons, he expressed to the BBC his ambition to become the first "bionic MP" after receiving prosthetic limbs.

He recounted regaining consciousness from his coma to discover that his legs had become "completely black," sharing with the network, "I'm not a doctor, but I can recognize when something is dead."
"I remained unexpectedly calm… I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was due to the mix of medications I was taking."

The amputations all occurred on December 1, and Mr. Mackinlay described the following Christmas as "somber."
He mentioned that his four-year-old daughter Olivia "took to it quite naturally… perhaps more smoothly than anyone else, honestly, children seem to be incredibly adaptable."
He is refocusing on Westminster, and after participating in Prime Minister's Questions, the MP plans to meet with Rishi Sunak before returning to his regular duties.
He is resolute in his decision to contest the upcoming election, aiming to further represent his constituency in Kent.
