Trackhouse Aprilia Shake-Up: Davide Brivio Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, with the confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team at its launch in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the project's second season with the Noale brand and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that the decision for Zeelenberg to leave was "very difficult" to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a new direction".
“This was a topic of our discussions,” Brivio mentioned. “We made this decision collectively. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of credit for his contributions.”
To be honest, when I got here, I found a team that he had developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has created.
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in one aspect, but it's a business decision in another."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
Zeelenberg's next career move remains uncertain at this time. Previously a 250cc Grand Prix victor, the Dutchman served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
