Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Departure of Wilco Zeelenberg at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia when 2024 concludes. This confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a “very tough” decision. He added that this move is part of the American team’s effort to explore “a new direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be truthful, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Moreover, most of the team will remain the same next year, which is a testament to his efforts in building it."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that for our future, we needed to explore a different path. While it's unfortunate on one hand, it's a business decision on the other."
"This has consistently been a challenging situation, and reaching this decision has been incredibly tough."
The future plans for Zeelenberg are not yet known. Zeelenberg, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, managed teams for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he took on the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
