There was a significant outcry when Mercedes decided not to offer a taxi package for the new E-Class (Series 214) back in March 2022. This decision caused considerable discontent among taxi drivers who often prefer this brand. Now, there's been a change of direction, but it's not entirely from the factory. Mercedes provides certain preparations, and INTAX GmbH handles the full conversion.
INTAX incorporates a premium wrapping option in the light ivory taxi color into their taxi package for the E-Class, which clients can select if they choose. Following compatibility tests by Mercedes, where INTAX's taxi-specific vinyl was applied to the corner radars on the front and rear bumpers, it's now possible to provide full wrapping services for the E-Class, bumpers included. Generally, the application of this taxi vinyl does not interfere with the vehicle's operational or safety systems.

The vehicle can now be fully wrapped in a light ivory color. Additional features include:• Pre-installation for taximeter and trip recorder• Pre-installation for radio communication (wiring harness without antenna/cable)• Pre-installation for taxi roof sign with brackets for HALE or Kienzle Argo signs (taxi-specific)• Mandatory taxi emergency alarm system (also required in rental cars)• Centralized interior lighting control• Detailed, color instruction manual for taxi/rental car operation
This package applies to all available engine types including gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid. In line with this, Mercedes has recently introduced the E 200 d to the German market, which features a 163 horsepower engine supplemented by a 20 horsepower electric boost. This may have been a nod to the taxi industry.
INTAX emphasizes that when ordering a vehicle from Mercedes, one should pay close attention to the following specifics: "It is imperative to note that the switch for the roof sign, which is not included in the packages but can be ordered separately through Code 047 or the PREMIUM package, is necessary for manual control. Without this switch, the roof sign can only be operated via the taximeter, a preference for many businesses."

Customers have the option to request a pre-installation setup for standard taximeters or odometers by selecting Code 014 or the PREMIUM package. It is recommended to also order the compatible taxi roof sign (available under Code 04… or as part of the PREMIUM package) which easily attaches to the provided standard mount. There is a choice between a mount for HALE-branded signs or one for Kienzle signs. Each combination has been uniquely designed and rigorously tested for each vehicle model.
The trade journal Taxi Times highlights that only vehicles produced from December 2024 onwards are eligible for upgrades with the required chauffeur package and an additional control unit (order codes P92 and 965), which must be ordered directly from the factory. However, a panoramic glass roof (Code 413) should not be ordered, as it would prevent the installation of the roof sign.
The taxi bundle from INTAX is priced at 3,330 Euros with wrapping included, and 1,650 Euros without it. Currently, the Mercedes 200 d Sedan has a starting price of 58,905 Euros on the German configurator.

A feature referred to as the "Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System" facilitates the incorporation and management of police-specific features, such as the siren and horn. These functions can now be operated through the 13-inch infotainment system's touchscreen, eliminating the need for additional installation space. Ford claims this to be the first digital solution of its kind.
The connection is facilitated by an interface module that provides over 200 specialized and licensed conversion companies with direct access to the vehicle's onboard network. This is intended to significantly simplify the integration and operation of additional features.

She cautions potential lawbreakers in advance: "The patrol officers won't be easily shaken off with this." Since 2019, the North Rhine-Westphalia police have accumulated over 1,200 Ford S-Max vehicles for patrolling purposes. However, this versatile sports van was discontinued almost two years ago, necessitating a replacement.

That's why we allocate substantial funds annually for appropriate and expert-level equipment. This naturally includes the right type of patrol car. General Motors has decided to sell its share in a battery plant in Michigan to LG Energy Solution. On Monday, both companies announced two significant updates.
In distinct statements, General Motors revealed its intention to divest its share in a Michigan-based battery plant joint venture to LG, meanwhile maintaining a collaborative technical relationship with the firm for the advancement of prismatic cell technology.
GM is awaiting the finalization of a deal set to conclude in early 2025. The company foresees recovering its financial outlay for the Lansing, Michigan facility, which is almost finished but pending equipment setup. Originally reported in 2022, the plant's construction was pegged at $2.5 billion, a cost shared equally between GM and LG.
General Motors stated that the deal would not affect its stake in the Ultium Cells LLC collaboration with LG, which includes the facility in question. Additionally, the company mentioned that, as of now, there are no intentions to alter the ownership structure of the Ultium Cells facilities located in Warren, Ohio, and Spring Hill, Tennessee.
In a development viewed as unrelated to GM's disinvestment in the Michigan battery facility, the pair of corporations will also broaden their ongoing technical collaboration to encompass prismatic cells for forthcoming electric vehicles from GM.

The MT1 electric pickup by Telo Trucks, situated in California, has been officially announced on Tuesday to have a reduced starting price. This eco-friendly truck is priced at $41,520 and can travel up to 260 miles on a single charge.
In 2023, Telo introduced the MT1, announcing it would initially be available as an all-wheel-drive with two motors, priced at $49,999 prior to any discounts. However, the vehicle's online customization tool is now active and reveals the availability of a basic version featuring a single motor and rear-wheel drive, starting at $41,520.

The foundational model MT1 produces 300 horsepower, and Telo predicts its Standard battery will provide a travel distance of 260 miles. For an extra $3,980, customers can opt for the Long Range battery, which is expected to exceed 350 miles on a single charge. Ironically, if you want the classic V-8 engine roar in a fresh Dodge sports car, you'll have to choose the electric version.
The driving force behind today's electric cars is inherently quiet and seamless, a quality that has won over many fans of electric vehicles. On the other hand, Dodge has gradually eliminated the V-8 engines from its range of high-performance cars. However, the creators of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona electric vehicle, set to hit the market soon in its introductory Scat Pack version, are determined to appeal to classic car aficionados as well. They plan to do this by recreating the sensory experience of a V-8 engine.
During an engaging exchange at the LA auto show, Green Car Reports had the opportunity to speak with Kevin Hellman, the senior VP of product at Stellantis for Dodge. He shared insights into the highly-discussed Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, revealing that this feature does more than mimic the iconic roar of muscle cars. It's designed to reintroduce a specific level of noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) to the vehicle, enhancing the sensory experience.
Hellman stated that the vibration from the Charger Daytona is palpable from behind the wheel, and the creators aimed to ensure that once the car is ignited, there's an unmistakable sensation of its power being activated.
Hellman rapidly initiated, accelerated, and ceased the engine operation right at the car exhibition space, a move that would have been prohibited if it were an actual V-8 engine, effectively showing us that it audibly matches expectations. However, to truly gauge the vibration from the driver's perspective and the overall driving sensation, we will need to hold on for roughly another week to share our initial driving feedback.
"He emphasized that the sensation in your seat indicates the vehicle is active," he explained, highlighting how the added vibrational feedback enhances the driving experience beyond what the artificial sound systems in some electric cars provide. "Frankly, when you're speeding and maneuvering on a racetrack, that intense physical sensation is excellent feedback."
2024 Model of the Dodge Charger Daytona
The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust is designed to create additional noise and vibration for electric vehicles. It's supported by four specially designed elastomer isolator bushings, similar to those found in a traditional car's exhaust system. The system includes two unique, high-efficiency transducers with a broad range of sound frequencies. Hellman explained that these are made up of regular drivers paired with two passive radiators, which are essentially drivers minus the magnet. These "passivators," as Hellman casually calls them, are key to producing the deep, resonant roar associated with powerful muscle cars.
Hellman notes that the components used in the Fratzonic system are quite comparable to those found in a subwoofer enclosure. However, the configuration is unique due to a patent that covers the interaction of the passivators and speakers to produce audio within its specific size. The system's size is approximately 36 liters, which is equivalent to a 10-gallon fuel container or a modestly sized piece of carry-on luggage, with a total volume of just 1.3 cubic feet.
The majority, though not the entirety, of the noise control involves the vehicle's system engaging in dynamic sound regulation, which includes modifications via the audio system, according to Hellman. However, he noted that approximately 90% of the audible experience for the driver originates from the external apparatus located at the vehicle's rear.

The Charger V-8's roar is the key feature, reaching a maximum of 126 dB
It's not only about the volume for the passengers in the electric vehicle. The goal for the designers was to match the volume of the previous Hellcat model, known for its ear-splitting 126 dB noise level. However, the crucial factor was capturing the correct pitch, particularly the deeper tones of the engine, according to Hellman. Achieving 126 dB with a high-pitched noise is relatively simple, but that's not the objective.
The team was determined that the electric vehicle should mimic the auditory experience of a Dodge V-8 engine. To achieve this, they began by collecting a wide array of sound samples from classic Hemi V-8s, 426 V-8s, contemporary Hemis, Hellcats, and even the Chrysler Turbine car from the 1960s. These sounds were then integrated into the final sound output of the EV. Following this, all involved parties were given the opportunity to assess each sound profile, focusing on their preferences for the startup, shutdown, acceleration, and overall operation sounds. Additionally, feedback was sought on whether the sounds authentically represented the essence of a Dodge vehicle.
The approach includes psychological elements and aims to be recognized as an authentic and motivational noise rather than a substandard copy. Consequently, Dodge dedicated time to thoroughly test the concept. "A considerable effort was made, and the collaborating agency developed various themes ranging from subtle to extreme muscle sounds, to outlandish sci-fi-esque tones. We evaluated these at our vehicle clinics and later presented them at SEMA," Hellman explained.
He described the outcome as a deep, rumbling sound with a touch of modernity. At the same time, the sound waves don't come to an end together, which adds a natural intricacy similar to the initial sound.
Upcoming 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Model
The Daytona EV group chose not to embrace an ultra-modern design, yet numerous electric vehicles have taken that path. For example, the audio effects of the Ford Mustang Mach-E draw inspiration from iconic sci-fi movies of the 1980s like “Blade Runner” and the Batmobile known as the Tumbler. However, these sounds are exclusively experienced by the occupants within the car.
He elaborated, "While you're behind the wheel, you might recognize a certain resonance that eludes precise identification. This is due to its functioning at 38 Hz, a frequency nearly identical to the combustion sequence of a Hemi."
The significance of the car's position plays a role in this auditory challenge. All the sounds have been meticulously adjusted to mimic the authentic V-8 engine noise for the person behind the wheel, and they also seem quite accurate to bystanders, as evidenced during the sound test at the car exhibition.

The Fratzonic initiative tackled a complex challenge in acoustic-physics
The creation of sound for the Hellcat and the classic muscle cars before it took on an epic proportion. According to Hellman, the initial goal for Fratzonic was to produce unique noises unlike any other electric vehicle. However, the focus quickly shifted to replicating a more profound V-8 ambiance.
Incorporating a quick overview of language studies and the science of sound, it's essential to understand that producing vowels requires airflow, with each vowel corresponding to specific frequency ranges. Having briefly experienced the Fratzonic feature on a vehicle during idle and acceleration, I noticed that it's the replication of those deep, rumbling vowel tones typical of a V-8 at rest that really stands out.
Engineers specializing in Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) at Stellantis in Michigan, who are also responsible for fine-tuning the sound of a genuine V-8 muscle car exhaust, collaborated with a secret firm known for producing sound and visual effects in the film industry. Together, they developed six unique sound profiles. These profiles are programmed to alter in intensity and style, responding to various inputs received by the vehicle's system.

Numerous factors impact the actual noise produced by a vehicle, such as its velocity, motor speed, throttle setting, weight burden, regeneration setting, and the selected driving mode.
According to Hellman, switching to a more dynamic driving setting typically results in an increase in both the intensity and loudness of the vehicle's noise. The standard setting is Auto, with Sport mode producing a somewhat higher sound, and Track and Drag modes reaching the highest volume levels.
You have the option to mute the sound entirely if it's not to your liking. Additionally, there's a Custom drive mode available that allows you to adjust and set varying sound levels for each mode according to your preference.
Hellman confirmed that the upcoming 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV will be equipped with a noise and vibration system across all models. He remained tight-lipped about the pricing, simply stating that the cost is considered as any standard vehicle part essential to the driving experience.
The unit operates on a specialized amplifier with a 600-watt capacity, and its power usage is on par with that of a premium sound system. The aerodynamic build of the Charger Daytona, especially with its front R-Wing configuration that channels air to enhance either efficiency or downforce, probably compensates for some of the energy it consumes.
In response to a question about the difficulties of ensuring the Fratzonic solution was resistant to elements such as puddles and road salt, Hellman quickly affirmed that there were indeed challenges, though he did not elaborate, simply stating, "Oh yeah!"
Questioning the Adaptability of Stellantis' Fratzonic System for Luxury Brands
Regarding the possibility of Stellantis adapting its Fratzonic sound technology for distinct vehicle brands such as Maserati or Ferrari, Hellman indicated that the time is not ripe. He acknowledged that while certain elements, such as the methodology, might be transferable to other models, it is not immediately scalable as it stands.
"Right now, it's completely tailored for Dodge, created specifically for this," he stressed.

However, Hellman, with his eight-year experience managing the Challenger and Charger models, perceives it as more than just a clever tactic to connect the old with the new. He believes that as the electric vehicle market evolves, this feature will provide a sense of recognition. “The auditory experience is crucial for Dodge and for the identity of muscle cars. 2026 BMW iX: A Half-Step to the Neue Klasse of Electric Vehicles
The upcoming 2026 BMW iX will be a part of the new generation of electric vehicles known as the Neue Klasse. For those keeping an eye on electric vehicle developments, this term should ring a bell. Despite its name having a French ring to an English-speaking ear, it's BMW's way of categorizing their latest electric vehicle lineup. This new lineup will debut with the iX3 crossover in the coming months and will later include a version of the iconic 3-Series sedan.
In the latest advancement of electric vehicles, the updated 2026 BMW iX is set to partially bridge the gap to the next generation of EVs. First introduced in 2022, this electric SUV from BMW comes with notable upgrades to its battery technology, drive systems, and core components. However, details on these enhancements remain under wraps until the worldwide unveiling scheduled for the end of January.
During a short trip near BMW's manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the latest iX model delivered a smoother ride and showcased an improved spectrum from its robust sport mode to the gentler comfort mode. The vehicle's exterior design has undergone modifications, merging the distinct eco-friendly look of the now-defunct i3 hatchback with the striking, perhaps audacious, design features of BMW’s crossover SUVs.
The vehicle was adorned with camouflage, and the inside dashboard and panels featured a slim carpeting similar to what one might see on a cargo floor. We only had a brief 15-minute opportunity to try it out, and BMW has kept much of the technical information under wraps. Below, we outline the confirmed facts, the rumors, and our predictions for this version of the iX.
The Spartanburg facility holds the title as the biggest BMW manufacturing plant globally. It produces the X3 and almost all of the larger-sized crossover SUVs for BMW's international distribution. However, production of the iX will remain at the Dingolfing Plant located in Lower Bavaria, Germany.
The upcoming 2026 iX is set to launch in the second quarter of 2025, offering a selection of three different models that signify varying tiers of performance, true to BMW's style.
Upgrades on the 2026 BMW iX's powertrain
The upcoming lineup of the BMW iX will feature all-wheel drive powered by two motors across all variants. However, reports from a Bimmerpost leak, as mentioned by various car news sources, indicate that the standard model will now be the iX xDrive45, replacing the previous xDrive40. Official EPA records suggest that the 2025 entry-level BMW iX, known as the xDrive40 and yet to hit the American market, comes equipped with a 71-kWh battery (usable capacity) and offers a maximum travel distance of 219 miles on a full charge as per EPA's evaluation.
Anticipate a bigger battery and extended driving distance as a standard feature of the 2026 iX xDrive45 model.
Speculation suggests that the current iX xDrive50 model will be upgraded to the iX xDrive60 by 2026, while the present M60 is anticipated to evolve into the M70 that same year. The forthcoming models are likely to boast a more substantial battery capacity compared to the current 105.2-kWh unit. However, it's believed that they will continue to utilize prismatic cells rather than adopting the cylindrical cells that are expected to be a feature of the upcoming Neue Klasse series of electric vehicles. This update is seen as an interim step, representing a 5.5 generation in BMW's electric vehicle battery and drive system technology, rather than a full leap to the sixth generation.
Vehicles from the Neue Klasse series will be equipped with an 800-volt system, whereas the iX model will continue to operate on a 400-volt system. However, it will see enhancements in efficiency to boost its charging speed, with the specifics yet to be disclosed. When using a DC fast-charging station with a peak output of 195 kW, the BMW iX slated for release in 2025 is expected to reach a charge level from 10% to 80% within a span of 40 minutes
Similar to the new generation models, the upcoming 2026 BMW iX is anticipated to employ silicon-based anodes in lieu of traditional graphite within its battery cells. This change is expected to enhance the battery's energy capacity and accelerate charging times. A higher energy capacity suggests the potential for an increased driving range, although this has not yet been officially verified by BMW. Official EPA certification regarding this aspect is not expected until sometime early next year.
BMW has made several enhancements to extend the driving distance of their vehicles, including the introduction of wheel bearings that have been optimized to reduce friction. Additionally, they have implemented more energy-efficient headlights. Furthermore, the introduction of new inverter technology has improved the energy delivery from the battery to the motor, providing a stronger power surge and ensuring a more compact and effective energy transfer.
The anticipated 2026 model of the BMW iX is expected to be 10% more efficient than its predecessor. The previous version, the 2025 iX xDrive50, boasts a range of 309 miles as per the EPA, when fitted with 20-inch wheels. With the projected improvement in efficiency, the upcoming 2026 xDrive60 model could see an increased range of up to 340 miles, particularly when paired with the most energy-saving wheels and tires designed for minimal rolling resistance.
The maximum distance for the 2025 M60 model is 285 miles, but the 2026 M70 model might reach approximately 310 to 315 miles, according to my rough estimate. Predicting the range for the xDrive45 is trickier as BMW has not disclosed the battery capacity.
Performance Expectations for the 2026 BMW iX
It's uncertain whether the upcoming M70 will surpass the current 2025 M60, which boasts 610 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque, along with a 0-60 mph sprint time of 3.6 seconds. Similarly, it remains to be seen if the iX xDrive60 will exceed the 2025 xDrive50's performance stats, which include 516 horsepower, 564 pound-feet of torque, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds.
During my short test drive of the iX xDrive60, I noticed it had an impressive amount of power right from the start, with even the slightest pressure on the accelerator leading to quick spurts of speed. It was fast enough to make me smile without making any of my fellow riders uncomfortable. When switching to Eco mode, the acceleration became noticeably less responsive. I was informed that switching to Sport mode would essentially turn off the stability control, allowing for potential drifting, though I didn't have the chance or the right conditions to try this out. The B setting on the gear shift is designed for maximum energy recovery through braking, which can slow the car down significantly without even touching the brake pedal. The braking system itself, however, hasn't changed.
During my previous experience with the iX xDrive50 model in 2023, I noticed it had less than steady control and was quite heavy, making it stand out from BMW's electric lineup for not all the right reasons. However, BMW has been making strides to enhance these aspects throughout the iX series. My recent trial was with the iX xDrive60 equipped with a standard steel-spring suspension. This time around, BMW has refined the hydraulic dampers to provide a more serene driving experience at cruising speeds. Indeed, while driving at approximately 70 mph on state roads, the vehicle lived up to this expectation. Aside from the usual tire noise that's typical with electric vehicles, the interior of the car was impressively silent, despite the test model appearing to be in an incomplete prototype stage.
One criticism from our editor regarding the 2023 BMW iX centered on the insufficient steering feedback when in Sport mode. BMW has claimed to enhance the steering experience, offering a more distinct difference when switching between sport and comfort modes. However, I wasn't able to verify this due to limited testing space.
The M70, following in the footsteps of its predecessor the M60, is expected to feature a dual-axle air suspension system complemented by adjustable dampers. It seems that the extravagant iron butterfly grille, which is a rather ostentatious interpretation of the kidney grille similar to the one found on the i4 electric sedan, will be maintained. Additionally, it is rumored to include a self-repairing grille function that camouflages or diminishes the appearance of scratches.
This year introduces an M Sport package, in response to customer demand. The existing Sport package for the 2025 xDrive50 may have lacked sufficient M elements. This new package features blue brake calipers, while the M Sport Package Pro that comes with the M70 includes red calipers. This could potentially irritate those pretending to have a full M model.
Internally, the bundle includes upgraded M sport seats that feature enhanced lateral support and an extended seat base by almost two inches. While leather seating is still available as an add-on with the M Sport Package, it also provides a steering wheel encased in leather, M-designated pedals, and distinctive M emblems.
Each model comes equipped with an array of amenities such as cruise control that adjusts to traffic conditions up to speeds of 85 mph, ambient entry lighting, warming options for both the front seats and steering wheel, and an audio system from the renowned Harman Kardon brand.
Choices for the vehicle feature a panoramic glass top, doors that close on their own, and an updated version of BMW's iDrive interface that comes with a digital dashboard and a touch display with a size yet to be revealed. For driver assistance, there are features like a semi-autonomous driving mode that can handle lane switching and a system that allows for parking without being in the car.
The latest edition of BMW's electric vehicle, the iX slated for 2026, introduces fresh elements to its category. Its fate within the Neue Klasse framework remains to be seen, with more details expected towards the end of January.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, a fresh update was unveiled featuring a 1.5-liter electric hybrid engine with a 133 km electric range and a quick charge capability of just 26 minutes. The Seat brand no longer offered the Cupra version; instead, the newly established Cupra brand took over, equipping the Leon with a robust engine of up to 333 horsepower.
Leon's accomplishments across sports, cinema, and professional spheres are evident through a multitude of honors. It has clinched the "Car of the Year" title in Spain twice. Notably, its achievements in the World Touring Car Championship stand out: in 2008 and 2009, it secured the championship titles, becoming the pioneering manufacturer to win a FIA World Championship with a diesel engine.

Biden Administration Proposes $7B Loan to Boost EV Battery Production in Indiana with Stellantis-Samsung Partnership
The U.S. government's energy department announced plans on Monday to provide Stellantis and Samsung SDI with a potential $7.5 billion loan to bolster battery manufacturing in Indiana.
The Department of Energy (DOE) is looking to secure the provisional loan agreement before the end of the Biden administration. This urgency is due to President-elect Donald Trump's criticism of Biden's policies to promote electric vehicle production, as reported by Reuters.
Upon authorization, the financing will support the construction of a pair of battery facilities in Kokomo, Indiana, which are being established through the StarPlus Energy collaboration between Stellantis and Samsung SDI. The initial factory is expected to commence operations in 2025, followed by the second facility in 2027. These two facilities in Indiana are a continuation of a longstanding partnership that began with the initial low-production Fiat 500e that utilized battery cells from Samsung SDI.
Upcoming 2024 Model of the Jeep Wag
Stellantis, in collaboration with Samsung SDI, is targeting an annual production capacity of 67 gigawatt-hours in Indiana, as reported by the DOE. Additionally, Stellantis is progressing with a project in Canada, working alongside LG Energy Solution on a solitary facility. In 2022, the car manufacturer announced its goal to surpass 45 gigawatt-hours in production capacity. Concurrently, Samsung has entered into a partnership with General Motors for a battery factory in Indiana.
In July, the Department of Energy revealed intentions to provide Stellantis with a loan of $334.8 million to transition its Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois towards electric vehicle manufacturing. Additionally, they aim to offer $250 million to support the production of electric vehicle drive modules at current plants in Kokomo, as reported by Reuters. However, these plans have yet to be confirmed.
2025 Model of the Ram 1500
