Red Bull’s Conduct Under Scrutiny: Calls for Stewards’ Meeting at Silverstone Amid Verstappen-Norris Controversy
There are calls for Red Bull to be "summoned for a discussion with the stewards" at Silverstone.
"The issue pertains to attitude, behavior, and respect for others, which are crucial in sports."
It has been suggested that Red Bull should engage in discussions with FIA stewards regarding their handling of the controversy involving Max Verstappen in Austria.
Verstappen collided with Lando Norris last weekend, causing the end of Norris's race and drawing ire from McLaren.
It's probable that they will encounter each other on the track again during the F1 British Grand Prix this weekend.
Commentator David Croft mentioned on the Sky F1 podcast that he would like to see Christian Horner, Jonathan Wheatley, and Gianpiero Lambiase summoned for a discussion with the stewards when they arrive at Silverstone.
The Red Bull team, understandably defending their driver as any team would, portrayed the situation as if Lando was completely to blame and Max was the victim.
“I don’t believe that was the situation. One could say that Lando shouldn’t have positioned his car there, but in my view, Max certainly shifted during the braking zones and created the problem.”
"I want to convey to the Red Bull team that while they aim to defend their driver, their approach might be harmful in the long run. By continuously implying that certain behaviors are acceptable, the driver is likely to persist in them. Ultimately, this could lead to significant consequences beyond just race day…"
"‘You can either have a straightforward conversation with him or continue to pamper him, the decision is completely yours…’”
Damon Hill responded by saying, "I concur. Perhaps in private meetings, they might admit, 'That was excessive. We could have secured a victory, but you got involved with the other driver, risking our chance of finishing the race.'"
"Perhaps they handle it in private, but in public, they surround Max with a protective barrier."
"Occasionally, you can hear Max speaking on the radio… if someone spoke to me in that manner, I would definitely have a few words to say in response!"
"I recognize that Max is experiencing pressure. I don't want to hold him accountable. He has remarkable skills."
"There is an essential element of attitude, behavior, and consideration for others that holds significant value in sports."
"Although there is no financial reward or points given, there are other advantages to acting in that manner."
Norris retracted his earlier statement at Silverstone, where he had said that Verstappen should apologize to him.
Verstappen emphasized that he was indifferent to his critics' opinions, but he valued his friendship with Norris.
