Mercedes’ Miscalculation Leads to Russell’s Disqualification at Belgian GP, Horner Comments on the Oversight
Christian Horner describes George Russell's disqualification as 'an error in Mercedes' math'
“It's unfortunate for George, but clearly, they miscalculated.”
Red Bull team leader Christian Horner attributes George Russell's disqualification in the F1 Belgian Grand Prix to an error in Mercedes' "calculations".
Russell was disqualified from the competition outcomes at Spa-Francorchamps because his Mercedes F1 vehicle weighed 1.5kg less than the minimum required.
This was made clear through the checks conducted by the FIA after the race.
There are suggestions that Russell's clever strategy of making just one pit stop during the Belgian Grand Prix had an impact.
Horner also proposed this theory, sharing his response to the developments with Sky Sports News.
"Absolutely, yes. I'm convinced you've shed more than a kilo of rubber," he mentioned. "We observed that on Friday."
You must ensure you have sufficient fuel to conduct the sampling. If not, you're essentially utilizing fuel as dead weight.
"Unfortunate news for George, clearly a result of an error in their math."
Russell's exclusion elevated Charles Leclerc to third place, marking his first podium appearance since the Monaco Grand Prix.
Sharing his perspective on the matter, Leclerc expressed, “No one desires to achieve a podium finish due to the disqualification of a fellow competitor.
Today, they achieved an outstanding performance. The victory wasn't due to any disparity in weight; it was their superior strength as a team that led them to win.
"Yet, in such cases, making an exception is challenging, and their disqualification is comprehensible."
"Sadly, despite his outstanding performance and that of Mercedes, it's simply a component of the racing world."
