Max Verstappen’s Weekend Challenge: Balancing Imola F1 and Virtual 24-Hour Race Amid Red Bull Upgrades
Max Verstappen is poised to manage both a virtual 24-hour sim race and the Imola F1 weekend simultaneously.
Max Verstappen is scheduled to compete in a 24-hour simulation race concurrently with this weekend’s F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The individual from the Netherlands is famous for his achievements in sim racing, frequently competing for Team Redline in diverse competitions.
Despite participating in the F1 race at Imola this weekend, Verstappen has also been confirmed as part of Redline's roster for the online 24-hour Nurburgring event.
Considering that drivers frequently switch places during the lengthy endurance races, Verstappen may have the opportunity to participate in both events this weekend if the schedules permit.
During a media interaction at Imola on Thursday, the question was posed to Verstappen.
"It's not exactly a confrontation… More like a long-distance race that you participate in with others, correct? We'll find out, as nothing has been definitively decided yet," he mentioned.
"Let's wait and see what happens. Naturally, this takes precedence, but should I find myself with some spare time, anything could happen."
Verstappen disclosed that he has installed a simulation racing setup in his motorhome, enabling him to participate in races.
"Yes, I own a complete simulator setup. Not the one I have at my place, but I've constructed a new one. Ensuring a strong connection is crucial."
Enhancements at Imola for Red Bull
Similar to Ferrari, Red Bull is rolling out a major update at Imola.
Lando Norris outperformed Red Bull to take the win in the previous race at Imola.
Norris moved into the lead position due to the Safety Car, but he also had the quickest pace in the race.
Heading into the upcoming weekend, Verstappen acknowledged his uncertainty about Red Bull's competitive edge.
"He mentioned that an increase in competitors bringing enhancements is expected, pointing out Ferrari as an example, which arrives with significant improvements. Consequently, it's challenging to predict our position," he stated.
"Essentially, it's unresponsive because these developments are predetermined well in advance. It's not a situation where if one team introduces improvements, we suddenly decide we need to assemble something new. Everything is already set in motion."
"We're pleased with our performance, yet it's crucial to maintain our momentum. The competition is gaining on us, as evidenced in Miami where, if we don't nail everything perfectly, they surpass us. Our goal is to minimize the occurrence of such weekends."
