Max Verstappen Optimistic About Addressing RB20’s Weaknesses for Major Performance Gains
Max Verstappen believes Red Bull can significantly improve by addressing the main flaw in their RB20 Formula 1 car.
Max Verstappen believes that Red Bull could significantly enhance their F1 car, the RB20, by addressing its major current issue.
Red Bull had their toughest weekend of the season in Monaco, with Verstappen managing just a sixth-place finish. However, he made a strong comeback by winning the Canadian Grand Prix, despite facing difficulties in Montreal as well.
Both competitions have underscored that the RB20 car struggles with handling kerbs and bumps, sparking optimism for a possible championship contest this season. However, Verstappen has cautioned Red Bull's competitors.
"The recent races have been quite challenging, and we've encountered numerous issues over the weekends. We need to have a smoother experience," he remarked after securing his sixth win of the season in Montreal.
"We're having significant issues with the curbs and the bumps. This is an area that we can definitely focus on to make substantial improvements to the car once we manage it effectively."
The current world champion believes that Red Bull can resolve the problem without sacrificing the main advantages of the RB20.
He expressed his belief that they could address the issue without affecting any other components of the car.
"We recognize this as a vulnerability and are diligently addressing it, as I strongly believe it is currently a significant hindrance to our performance."
“Of course, I'm also excited about some circuits where we don't have to deal with a lot of curbs or bumps.
"Every weekend, you can observe that certain teams perform better on specific tracks, which, in a sense, adds to the excitement."
Red Bull's team leader Christian Horner supported Verstappen's statements by saying, "Everything needs to function together. While enhancing the car's aerodynamic performance, it's also important to ensure it can handle kerbs."
"It was promising that our performance in sector three this weekend was strong, despite the car's stiffness causing it to shake over the final chicane."
"If you examine the overall performance, we remained highly competitive. So, even though it was challenging, we still managed to maintain a good pace."
"There seems to be real potential in the performance, so if we can tap into that, it should result in faster lap times."
