Marc Marquez Hits 2024 Targets Early, Eyes Further Wins in MotoGP Season
Marc Marquez: “I’ve met all of my goals for this year”
"The key takeaway is that I’ve met every one of my goals for this year"
Having clinched victories in the last two grand prix races, Marc Marquez still has ample opportunity to narrow the 53-point deficit to MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin and the 46-point gap to his soon-to-be teammate Francesco Bagnaia.
No matter if he competes for the world championship in his only season with Gresini, Marquez says he has already met his goals for this year.
There are still seven races left in the 2024 season, offering up to 259 points. The next event is the Emilia Romagna round, which will be held at Misano this weekend.
Marquez commented on their performance, noting that they have been riding better than in past races, particularly since making improvements at the Red Bull Ring. However, he acknowledged that Martin and Bagnaia are still slightly quicker, and he needs to make further enhancements to compete for the 2024 title.
"For me, the key takeaway is that I've reached all my goals for this year. If an opportunity for a title comes along, that's great, but my main focus is to enjoy the moment and maintain this performance through to the season's end as I gear up for 2025."
Taking advantage of a short burst of rain, Marquez managed to move up from a modest ninth place starting position at the latest San Marino Grand Prix. He subsequently broke the lap record using a medium rear tire.
Will the Spanish athlete achieve a third consecutive victory this weekend?
On Thursday, Marquez emphasized that practice would be crucial for them to get a better grasp of the race track, especially since they will be dealing with the same circuit but under colder conditions. He expressed a desire to see what they could achieve.
"Last Sunday was fantastic, particularly the latter half of the race where I felt at ease, boosting my confidence significantly. This carried over into Monday's test as well."
"Let's find out if we can keep going like this."
At the moment, Marquez is racing on a GP23 that's a year old. Next year, he will join the factory team and ride the newest Ducati model alongside Bagnaia.
