Marc Marquez Fires Back at Valentino Rossi as 2015 Controversy Reignites Ahead of Emilia-Romagna MotoGP
Marc Marquez responds to Valentino Rossi as verbal clash escalates
Marc Marquez has retaliated against claims made by Valentino Rossi
Marc Marquez has reacted to shocking comments from his former competitor, Valentino Rossi.
During a recent podcast, Rossi caused a major stir in the MotoGP community by talking about the infamous end of the 2015 season.
He alleged, among various points, that Marquez showed signs of happiness when Rossi received a severe penalty to begin the final race of 2015 from the back of the grid, which ultimately dashed his championship aspirations.
Marquez mentioned to DAZN that he had both listened to and viewed the recording.
"Alright, but at the moment, I have far more urgent matters to think about than focusing on those words."
"I am currently responsible for the assignment."
"As an avid cyclist, those conflicts don't concern or impact me."
"I've experienced it all before, so I am fully aware of where my focus needs to be."
"It hasn't happened before, and it won't happen now; I won't let anyone deceive me."
What did Rossi mention?
He recounted an incident where he was penalized for an altercation with Marquez in Sepang in 2015, which resulted in him having to begin the race from the back of the grid in Valencia.
"[Marquez’s manager at the time, Emilio] Alzamora, began to hurl insults at me. I questioned his presence since he wasn't affiliated with Honda,” Rossi stated.
"A minor altercation occurred. Ultimately, Mike Webb, the race director, declared that I would begin the race in Valencia from the very last position, a situation unprecedented in MotoGP history."
As per the regulations, I should have had a drive-through penalty at Sepang. Consequently, instead of finishing in third place, I would have ended up in fifth.
"If people believed that I had intentionally caused Marquez to fall, they should have compelled me to do it. Instead, they penalized me by making me start from the last position in Valencia. This decision handicapped me significantly, leading to my loss of the championship."
"Marquez stood there, head bowed. I informed him that this incident would haunt him throughout his career, as it's disgraceful for the sport to cause another person to lose."
"When Mike Webb suggested that I should begin the race from the back in Valencia, I felt a chill run through me because I realized the championship was out of my grasp. My immediate response was to glance at Marquez, who then looked up and exchanged a glance with Alzamora, seemingly confirming their success."
Third Straight Victory in Sight for Marquez?
Marquez heads into this weekend's Emilia-Romagna MotoGP aiming for his third grand prix win in a row.
"It's been quite a stretch, 14 days without a victory," he quipped to DAZN.
“Clearly, winning two games in a row boosts your confidence and the morale you already possessed.
"Most importantly, I would emphasize the sense of assurance and calmness that comes from carrying on with your current actions, as everything is proceeding smoothly."
"We're indeed heading into a new weekend, but we're drawing on past experiences and trying to understand the track conditions. These conditions are likely to change significantly due to cooler temperatures and the possibility of some rain during the sessions."
Regarding the recent Misano test, he mentioned, "The purpose of our test was to revisit elements that had previously failed during the grands prix, just to eliminate them from consideration."
"Indeed, I completed the test using the same bike I raced with on Sunday because it was the one I felt most comfortable on."
