Luca Marini Reflects on Challenging Transition to Repsol Honda: A Future of Optimism Amid Current Struggles
Luca Marini: 'Viewing the standings now brings a bit of pain'
Luca Marini: ‘Certainly, in the future, I’ll feel much more content than I do at the moment. So, it’s best to stay calm and relaxed’
After participating in seven races with Repsol Honda, Luca Marini continues his quest to earn his inaugural point in the MotoGP world championship while riding an RC213V.
A year ago, the situation at VR46 Ducati was markedly different. At this point in the season, he had already achieved his inaugural MotoGP Sprint and GP podium finishes, amassed 72 points, and was ranked sixth in the overall standings.
The Italian acknowledges the challenge they're facing is 'extremely tough', yet remains 'confident' in revitalizing the RC213V initiative, expressing optimism about the future: "Certainly, I'll be much more content than I am at present."
"Marini expressed astonishment at his current mental state, given the challenging circumstances he's facing."
"When I'm tuned into the broadcasts that Dorna airs during the afternoons and evenings at the paddock, featuring all of last year's races, I notice that I'm consistently among the top three."
"Admittedly, glancing at the rankings now does sting slightly."
"However, I am confident that this unique project, which I deeply believe in, will undoubtedly bring me much more happiness in the future than I currently experience."
"Remain composed and at ease, continue your efforts, as all the Japanese individuals are performing admirably."
Despite Honda remaining at the bottom of the constructors' rankings, and their leading rider, Joan Mir, who is Marini's teammate, sitting in 18th place in the riders' standings, there's a guarded hope that the recent updates to the engine and aerodynamics are a step towards improvement.
"Marini mentioned that adjustments are necessary due to the recent aerodynamic updates, which have slightly altered the bike's balance. Therefore, the setting requires further fine-tuning."
The updated motor, unveiled in Barcelona to help with cornering, is seen as: "A move towards future advancements, meaning we need to continue refining the motorcycle – not just concentrate on what may be the quickest solution for immediate speed, but on achieving higher speeds in the long run."
Marini is currently in the initial year of a two-year agreement with Honda, with speculation suggesting that Mir is close to renewing his contract for 2025.
