Lewis Hamilton Unperturbed by Qualifying Hiccups, Eyes Improvement Ahead of Monaco GP
Lewis Hamilton responds to critiques about his F1 qualifying performance in 2024, stating, “I’m not overly concerned about it.”
Lewis Hamilton appears unfazed by his recent struggles in F1 qualifying as he heads into this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.
In 2024, Hamilton has managed to qualify ahead of his Mercedes teammate George Russell only a single time
This indicates that Russell leads the qualifying matchups against his opponent with a score of 6-1.
Throughout his Formula 1 career, Hamilton was bested in qualifying by a teammate in just a single season, with Nico Rosberg achieving this feat in 2014.
Nonetheless, from the latter part of the previous year, Hamilton has found it challenging to maintain his speed in single-lap performances.
On the opposite side of the argument, it's undeniable that Hamilton continues to be one of the top performers during races, especially in terms of handling his tyre wear effectively.
During a press briefing in Monaco on Thursday, which included Crash.net among the media outlets, Hamilton addressed inquiries regarding his lackluster performances in qualifying rounds.
He clarified, "I wouldn't argue that it hasn't been a focus, but rather, the aim has been to enhance every aspect throughout the weekend. Especially since the conclusion of the previous year and throughout this year, our performance on Saturdays has notably struggled."
"I'll keep pushing forward with the task. Up to this point, progress hasn't been remarkable. However, there are numerous opportunities ahead to address the issues. There's ample time to refine both my skills and the car's performance."
"I'm not letting it bother me too much. Thankfully, my performance in races is still good, so I have that to rely on at the moment."
Mercedes has faced challenges at the beginning of the season, not securing a top-three finish in the initial seven races.
This signifies their most disappointing season opener since 2011, a year in which they failed to secure any podium finishes.
Hamilton has stated that Mercedes won't introduce any fresh upgrades this weekend, but he expressed greater enthusiasm about going to Monaco than he has felt in the past two years.
"He also mentioned, "There are no enhancements for us this weekend. The updates were distributed across the previous two races. We're utilizing our maximum downforce configuration, which is common among all teams here, along with an improved wing design."
"As of now, our plans for the weekend remain uncertain. This time around, I'm feeling a surge of excitement, a stark contrast to my feelings about the last two cars which were somewhat disappointing. This current project is still evolving, but I'm optimistic that it will perform significantly better here than it did the previous year."
