Leclerc Issues Bold Warning to F1 Rivals Ahead of Monaco GP: ‘More Lap Time to Find’
Charles Leclerc sends a strong message to F1 competitors: 'We can still significantly improve our lap times'
Charles Leclerc believes Ferrari has untapped potential to enhance their performance in Monaco.
Charles Leclerc is optimistic about Ferrari's potential for further improvement, despite their strong performance during Friday's F1 practice sessions at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The local Monaco favorite dominated the practice sessions in Monte Carlo.
Lewis Hamilton led the pack in the first practice session, but Leclerc took the spotlight in the second one.
Throughout different phases of the event, Leclerc consistently maintained a lead of nearly one second ahead of his closest rival, demonstrating exceptional speed, particularly on the medium tires.
Leclerc hasn't secured a win since mid-2022 and has faced challenges in achieving favorable outcomes in his home country throughout his career.
After spending his day in Monaco, Leclerc expressed feeling "assured" about his prospects.
"He mentioned, 'Regarding the medium tires, we performed well. However, with the soft ones, we found it challenging to get everything right due to significant congestion on the track."
Overall, we're equipped with a strong car right now, and I'm feeling optimistic. That said, it's crucial we maintain our pace going into FP3. Given Monaco's unique characteristics, I possibly pushed the boundaries more than my competitors today, and fortunately, it worked in our favor.
"However, the real challenge begins tomorrow when everyone is pushed to their limits. So far, we've performed exceptionally well. We must continue to put in the effort and stay concentrated on our own progress."
"I have the capability to be faster by consolidating all elements. If you examine my sector times, you'll see there's a significant amount of potential speed to be gained. That will be my priority for the next day. The performance and sensation are already in place."
Leclerc recognized Hamilton's speed when evaluating his key competitors before the qualifying round.
"He emphasized the sense of potential they brought with them, adding, "Like I mentioned back in 2021, our car wasn't up to par, but upon reaching Monaco, our speed was undeniable.
"Since the season started, Mercedes has faced challenges, yet their speed is undeniable. Lewis has been in top form throughout the day! We need to give our all tomorrow with the aim of securing the pole position.
"In the past, I've secured pole position twice, but unfortunately, the races on Sunday didn't go as planned. Achieving pole position again would provide the optimal starting point for Sunday's race, but our primary goal is to concentrate on securing that elusive victory."
