**”Jorge Martin Weighs In on Bagnaia-Marquez Collision as Championship Battle Intensifies at Aragon MotoGP”**
Jorge Martin has shared his thoughts on the incident between his championship competitor Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez during the Aragon MotoGP.
Jorge Martin's chances for the championship improved during the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend, thanks to his remarkable consistency, while Francesco Bagnaia's exit due to a crash hindered his own prospects.
Martin came to Aragon five points behind Bagnaia in the World Championship standings. This gap resulted from Bagnaia's wins in both the Sprint and Grand Prix events in Austria.
However, Bagnaia had a disappointing weekend in terms of points, while Martin secured two more second-place finishes, continuing his streak of finishing second in all six races since the summer break.
Bagnaia’s eventful weekend culminated in a late-race clash with Alex Marquez. Following a disappointing start, Bagnaia made his way through the pack and caught up to Marquez’s rear tire with seven laps remaining.
During the 18th lap, Marquez veered off course at turn 12. As Bagnaia attempted to capitalize on this, the two riders collided and crashed at turn 13.
During the press conference following the race, Martin shared his perspective on the incident. However, it was evident that he was hesitant to take a definitive stance.
"It's tough," Martin remarked. "You ought to inquire with Pecco [Bagnaia] and Alex [Marquez]."
“Undoubtedly, it was hard to see clearly due to the significant amount of dust in that area. I believe that’s why Alex couldn’t lean further, similar to what happened to Joe Roberts in Moto2. Roberts ended up crashing on the final lap while competing with his American Racing teammate, Marcos Ramirez, and eventually there was a collision.”
"I hope they are alright because it looked like they were near the bikes after the accident. I wish them well for the next race."
Following the event, Bagnaia visited the medical center, where scans revealed no fractures. However, the Italian rider mentioned experiencing pain in his neck and left shoulder.
The upcoming MotoGP World Championship event, the San Marino Grand Prix, will take place this weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. In 2023, Bagnaia participated in this race with a leg injury sustained during a crash at the Catalan Grand Prix. Similarly, this year, he will have just one week to recover after the Aragon race to prepare for Misano.
Despite Bagnaia having secured two victories at Misano in the MotoGP category, it was Martin who triumphed in both races in 2023. This year, the Spanish rider heads to his competitor’s home circuit with a 23-point lead in the championship standings.
