From Rossi’s Lengthy Negotiations to Marquez’s Swift Agreement: Ducati CEO Sheds Light on Rapid Contract Process
Ducati CEO questioned on Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez contracts
Ducati's chief executive asked about the rapid conclusion of Marc Marquez's contract
The rapidity with which Marc Marquez's agreement with Ducati was finalized stands in stark contrast to the pace of Valentino Rossi's last MotoGP contract.
After departing from the main Yamaha team, Rossi dedicated several months to concluding his contract for 2021 with Yamaha's satellite Petronas team.
Nevertheless, Marquez and Ducati apparently reached an agreement within days following a sudden reversal related to Jorge Martin.
Ducati proposed their 2025 factory team position to Martin and wanted Marquez to compete on a GP25 for Pramac, but Marquez declined, leading to a reconsideration.
When questioned about the challenges of finalizing Marquez's two-year contract, Ducati's CEO Claudio Domenicali provided insight.
"Honestly, it all proceeded without any issues," he reported to MOW.
“It’s evident that numerous other details exist which are not worth discussing at this moment and do not need to be enumerated.”
“However, Ducati, along with Marquez’s team, acted swiftly in this matter as well.
"There weren't any specific challenges."
The inclusion of the Catalan racer, known for his legendary rivalry with Rossi, might create a buzz in Ducati's native Italy.
"He is an exceptional champion, and as Gigi Dall'Igna mentioned, like all top athletes, he has both admirers and detractors," Domenicali acknowledged.
Some people inform us that we made the best possible decision.
"And those who, on the other hand, assert the contrary."
"A choice was necessary, and we believe we have chosen the best option for Ducati to enhance our competitiveness."
Ducati has lost both Martin and their current factory rider, Enea Bastianini, due to their decision to select Marquez.
Martin is set to move to Aprilia, while Bastianini is headed to Tech3 KTM.
Domenicali was questioned regarding a heartfelt hug with the departing Bastianini.
"I’m not fond of the word 'goodbye.' Perhaps it was just a farewell," he remarked.
“Regrettably, in the realm of sports, particularly in our discipline, decisions must be made, and it’s not always feasible to progress collectively.
"If it were my decision, I would deploy numerous Desmosedicis on the track, allowing all the riders who have been part of the Borgo Panigale team and formed unique bonds to participate. However, that's not possible."
"Enea is an excellent rider and an exceptional young man. It's evident that we're experiencing some difficulties right now, but that’s the nature of sports."
