From Podiums to Patience: Luca Marini’s Quest for MotoGP Glory with Repsol Honda
Luca Marini: 'Seeing my current ranking is a bit painful'
Luca Marini: 'I am confident that I will be much happier in the future. So, I just need to stay calm and composed'
Seven races into his stint with Repsol Honda, Luca Marini has yet to secure his first MotoGP world championship point riding an RC213V.
The situation is drastically different compared to the previous year at VR46 Ducati. At the same point in the season last year, he had already achieved his first MotoGP Sprint and GP podium finishes, accumulated 72 points, and held the sixth position in the rankings.
The Italian acknowledges that the situation is 'extremely challenging' but is 'confident' in revitalizing the RC213V project. He stated, 'I am certain that I will be much happier in the future than I am at present.'
Marini expressed his surprise at his own mindset during this challenging time, stating that it is a particularly tough situation for him.
“When I watch the television broadcast that Dorna airs in the afternoons and evenings in the paddock, featuring all of last year's races, I often see myself in the top three positions."
"Observing the current standings is somewhat painful.
"However, I am confident in this new endeavor and believe that in the future, I will be significantly happier than I am at present."
"Stay calm and composed, and continue your efforts, as everyone from Japan is performing excellently."
Although Honda remains at the bottom of the constructors' rankings and their leading rider, Joan Mir, who is a teammate of Marini, is positioned 18th in the riders' standings, there is a hopeful outlook that the recent updates to the engine and aerodynamics are promising improvements.
Marini mentioned that adjustments are still necessary for the setup, as the new aerodynamic changes have slightly altered the bike's balance.
The updated engine, aimed at improving maneuverability and first introduced in Barcelona, represents a forward-looking enhancement. The focus remains on continuing to develop the bike, prioritizing future speed potential over immediate performance gains.
Marini is currently in the initial year of a two-year contract with Honda, while there are speculations that Mir is close to renewing his agreement for 2025.
