Franco Morbidelli’s 2025 Dilemma: Pramac, VR46, and the MotoGP Silly Season Shuffle
What's the future destination for Franco Morbidelli following the MotoGP's unpredictable transfer period?
Could it be Pramac? Or perhaps VR46? What team will Franco Morbidelli join in 2025?
During a chaotic transfer period, there has been little talk about Franco Morbidelli's career prospects.
However, his subsequent move remains unclear, with various factors set to impact it.
The rider from Pramac Ducati is uncertain about the models of motorcycles their squad will be using in the upcoming season.
Pramac has until the end of July to determine if they will continue as a satellite team for Ducati or switch allegiance to Yamaha.
For a rider, the distinction lies in having the top-performing motorcycle in the competition or dealing with the challenging M1.
If Pramac decides to switch to Yamaha, it raises the question: who will take over the factory-spec Ducati?
VR46 is considered the frontrunner to take over GP24, making them an even more appealing option.
The contracts of their racers, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio, are also set to end this year.
Bezzecchi is rumored to be in line for the official Aprilia seat, potentially leaving an open spot.
Joining VR46 is a logical step for Morbidelli, given that Valentino Rossi is his mentor.
Transitioning to Rossi's crew's pit area would enable Morbidelli to maintain his position with the official Ducati team while sporting a new livery.
Morbidelli, after being let go by Yamaha following a year under intense observation, saw the beginning of 2024 compromised due to an injury.
An accident in the preseason trials dashed his aspirations for an early lead at Pramac.
Nonetheless, securing a sixth-place finish at Mugello and a seventh-place at Le Mans has served as a testament to his abilities.
Pramac is aware that Jorge Martin, their top contender for the championship, won't be with them next season, but what happens next with Morbidelli remains uncertain.
