Fabio Quartararo Hails Pedro Acosta’s Talent and Predicts Championship Podium Finish
Exclusive Interview with Fabio Quartararo: Pedro Acosta is “Among the Most Gifted Riders I’ve Encountered”
Quartararo on Acosta: “He has the potential to secure a spot on the championship podium by the season’s end… He’s one of the most gifted riders I’ve ever come across.”
Fabio Quartararo anticipates that Pedro Acosta will surpass the accomplishments Quartararo himself achieved as a rookie in 2019 and thinks Acosta has the potential to contend for a top-three position in this year's MotoGP rankings.
The French rider pursued Marc Marquez, who had not yet suffered his arm injury, for wins and ultimately secured fifth place overall. During his debut season with the satellite Petronas Yamaha team, he achieved seven podium finishes.
Acosta, representing GASGAS Tech3, is presently ranked fifth in the world championship standings and has achieved two podium finishes in grand prix events.
In an interview with Crash.net before the Barcelona-Mugello doubleheader, Quartararo highlighted that he was in twelfth place in the standings after round 6, but he secured his first MotoGP podium in the following race.
"During my rookie year at this same point in the championship, I was much further behind. Honestly, I believe he has a strong chance… I predict he will be on the podium at the end of the season."
“In my opinion, he is among the most skilled riders I have ever observed. Although I’m not very old, based on what I’ve seen and how he performs, I believe this to be true.”
When asked to elaborate on what he finds most impressive about Acosta, the 11-time MotoGP race winner and 2021 world champion responded:
"His ability to adjust to any situation is remarkable. The way he brakes in MotoGP is astonishing! Just like the move he made on Marc at Turn 1 in Portimao."
"Comprehending the front brakes of a MotoGP bike is challenging. He, however, handled it effortlessly, his sliding technique appeared instinctive."
"He is an exceptionally skilled rider, and it is evident from his carefree and joyful riding style."
Aleix Espargaro serves as "a role model": "Declared his retirement, then secured the top position."
Aleix Espargaro, who is nearing the conclusion of his MotoGP career, plans to retire from full-time racing after this season.
At just 25 years old, Quartararo has extended his contract with Yamaha through 2025 and 2026. However, what are his future aspirations?
Quartararo stated that he doesn't intend to remain until the age of 35.
"I've been riding motorcycles for over two decades now. Even though it's not always on a MotoGP bike, it's something I've done throughout my life."
“Perhaps when I turn 30, I’ll decide that I want to keep going indefinitely!”
"Frankly, I’m not very fond of all the traveling."
"I believe it's crucial to recognize the right moment to halt."
Aleix announced his retirement and then went on to secure the first position the very next day. I have to tip my hat to him; he truly sets a remarkable example.
“This is why I think I won't keep going until I'm 35.”
