Esteban Ocon’s Future in F1 at Risk Due to ‘Irrational Red Mist’ with Teammates, Brundle and Alpine Boss Warn
Esteban Ocon has received caution that his 'reckless fury' could lead to a significant setback, potentially making it challenging for him to secure a Formula 1 spot with "any team" should he persist in conflicting with his fellow drivers.
Martin Brundle is of the opinion that Esteban Ocon's prospects in F1 could suffer due to the "unreasonable anger" he displays while competing against his teammates.
During the initial lap of Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix, Ocon crashed into his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly following a bold maneuver inside at Portier by Ocon, which resulted in his car being launched into the air after their tyres made contact, both drivers hailing from France.
Alpine leader Bruno Famin cautioned that "actions will have repercussions," and according to Sky Sports, the possibility of sidelining Ocon for the upcoming Canadian race is "being seriously contemplated."
Ocon has had previous run-ins with his Formula 1 colleagues. During his tenure with Force India/Racing Point, he was involved in an incident with Sergio Perez, and he also faced disapproval from Fernando Alonso due to multiple contentious moments.
Former racer-turned-analyst Brundle believes that the image Ocon is creating for himself could potentially jeopardize his opportunities to clinch an F1 spot in the upcoming season.
"In his post-race column for Sky, Brundle highlighted the initial lap as a clear illustration of the intense rivalry and urgent struggle occurring among the drivers in the latter part of the grid."
"Approaching the tunnel, right at the Portier corner and moments before the race was halted with a red flag, Esteban Ocon made a bold move on the inside against his Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly, resulting in a significant collision. The impact forced Ocon out of the race due to extensive damage to his car, while Gasly managed to secure the tenth position, earning a point for their team."
"Ocon is recognized as a sai-allcreator.com">killed and quick driver on the track, yet historical evidence suggests he often loses his temper during races, especially when competing against his own team members."
Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso have previously voiced strong disapproval of his aggressive on-track behavior towards teammates, and now Gasly has joined the chorus of critics. Such conduct could be detrimental to Esteban's prospects, as leading teams, possibly even any team, may be unwilling to accommodate such an attitude.
"A driver embodies the efforts and professionalism of hundreds, along with the investment and sponsorship worth hundreds of millions of pounds associated with an F1 team. It's just not feasible to persistently target your single team-mate recklessly."
Following a red flag suspension, Ocon did not continue in the race, whereas his teammate Gasly finished in 10th place, earning a point.
