Ducati’s Swift Deal with Marquez Versus Rossi’s Prolonged Yamaha Negotiation: Inside Ducati’s Strategic Choices
Inquiries on Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez's deal directed at Ducati's chief
Ducati's head probed on the rapid conclusion of Marc Marquez's contract negotiation
The pace at which Marc Marquez finalized his agreement with Ducati starkly differs from the timeline of Valentino Rossi's last contract in MotoGP.
Rossi dedicated several months to securing his agreement for the 2021 season with Yamaha's Petronas satellite team, following his departure from the main team.
In a swift turn of events, Marquez and Ducati reached an agreement only a few days following a sudden change of direction concerning Jorge Martin.
Ducati proposed their 2025 team position to Martin and aimed for Marquez to handle a GP25 with Pramac, yet he declined, prompting a reconsideration.
When inquired about the complexity of finalizing Marquez's two-year agreement, Ducati's CEO, Claudio Domenicali, was questioned.
"Actually, everything proceeded with remarkable ease," he shared with MOW.
"Evidently, numerous additional aspects exist which currently hold no significance for discussion or enumeration."
"However, Ducati and Marquez's team were also swift in their response."
"No specific challenges were encountered."
Incorporating the Catalan motorcycle racer, known for his legendary MotoGP contention with Rossi, might spark quite a reaction in Ducati's native Italy.
"Domenicali acknowledged, echoing Gigi Dall'Igna's sentiments, that he is a remarkable champion who, as is common with all notable champions, is both admired and not admired."
Some individuals assure us that our decision was the best possible one.
"And yet, there are those who assert the contrary."
"We needed to make a choice, and we're confident that we've opted for the most advantageous path for Ducati to enhance our competitiveness."
Ducati has seen the departure of Martin and the existing team member Enea Bastianini, following their decision to go with Marquez.
Martin is set to team up with Aprilia, while Bastianini is making a move to Tech3 KTM.
Domenicali was questioned regarding a heartfelt hug shared with the departing Bastianini.
"Farewell is a term I'm not fond of. Perhaps it was just a parting," he remarked.
"Regrettably in athletics, within our discipline, decisions must be made and it's not always feasible to progress as a unified group.
"If I had it my way, I'd have scores of Desmosedicis hit the track, keeping all the riders who've been through Borgo Panigale and with whom we've formed a unique bond. However, that's not possible."
"Enea is an exceptional rider and a remarkable young man, and it's evident that we are currently experiencing some distress. However, this is part of the nature of sports."
