DTM Unveils 2019 Calendar Featuring New Circuits and W Series as Key Support Event
DTM has announced their 2019 season schedule, which will include nine rounds. The calendar will introduce two new tracks: Zolder and Assen. Additionally, the newly established W Series will be featured as a supporting event at several of these races.
On Friday morning, the ITR, which oversees DTM, announced the new schedule. This year's calendar includes one less round compared to 2018, though two joint events with Super GT are yet to be revealed.
DTM authorities have announced a schedule of nine rounds for the 2019 season, which includes two new tracks: Zolder and Assen. Additionally, the newly introduced W Series will be featured as a support race at several of these events.
On Friday morning, the ITR, which oversees DTM, announced the new calendar. This schedule has one less round compared to 2018, but it will include two joint events with Super GT that are yet to be confirmed.
The tracks at Zandvoort, the Red Bull Ring, and the Hungaroring will no longer be featured on the schedule. In their place, new events at Zolder (from May 17-19) and Assen (from July 19-21) have been included. The season will kick off and conclude at Hockenheim, with the final event set for October 4-6, 2019.
The press release additionally verified that the newly established all-women W Series will serve as a supporting event for DTM in six of the nine planned rounds. This inaugural season of the championship is set to begin on May 3-5 at Hockenheim, with subsequent races scheduled at Zolder, Misano, Norisring, Assen, and Brands Hatch.
The European Formula 3 series, which is yet to be named, will run alongside DTM in 2019. This series will be rebranded as a regional competition following the introduction of the FIA's new international championship that will replace GP3. Both series will feature in all nine events of the season.
