Audi’s Shocking Mid-Race Withdrawal Stuns DTM Barcelona Event
Audi pulls all cars out mid-race.
In a dramatic twist, Audi made a shocking decision to withdraw all its vehicles just a few laps before the end of the second-to-last DTM race of the season in Barcelona.
The specific reasons for withdrawing the last five A4 cars from the race remain unclear. However, championship hopefuls Mattias Ekstrom and Martin Tomczyk had already been taken out of the competition by Mercedes drivers Mika Hakkinen and Daniel La Rosa. Additionally, teammate Timo Scheider was also compelled to exit the race following a crash involving Daniel La Rosa.
In a stunning turn of events during the second-to-last DTM race of the season in Barcelona, Audi pulled all of its vehicles from the competition just a few laps before the finish.
The specific reasons for withdrawing the last five A4 cars from the race remain unclear. However, contenders for the title, Mattias Ekstrom and Martin Tomczyk, had already been taken out of the race by Mercedes drivers Mika Hakkinen and Daniel La Rosa. Additionally, factory driver Timo Scheider was also compelled to exit following a crash with Daniel La Rosa.
In the final moments of the race, Bruno Spengler overtook Mike Rockenfeller to secure third position. Following this, Audi decided to pull all their remaining drivers—Rockenfeller, Alex Premat, Lucas Luhr, Christian Abt, Tom Kristensen, and Vanina Ickx—into the pits to withdraw from the competition.
Jamie Green secured his inaugural DTM victory, as only six cars completed the race. Following him were Spengler in second place, Paul di Resta in third, Alex Margaritis, Gary Paffett in fifth, and Mathias Lauda in sixth.
