Daniel Ricciardo Faces Uphill Battle to Secure Red Bull F1 Seat Amid Rising Competition
Daniel Ricciardo has received a warning that he will need to put in significant effort to keep his place in the RB F1 team for the 2025 season.
Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull's Formula 1 team, stated that Daniel Ricciardo will need to put in significant effort to keep his position at Red Bull.
Daniel Ricciardo was passed over for a spot on the Red Bull senior team for the upcoming year, as Sergio Perez has been re-signed to partner with Max Verstappen for the next two seasons.
During the weekend of the Canadian Grand Prix, Red Bull announced that Yuki Tsunoda, who is Daniel Ricciardo's teammate, will remain with their sister team RB for the 2025 season.
This means only one spot remains to be filled in the Red Bull team, a position currently held by Ricciardo, who has had a varied beginning to the 2024 season.
Horner mentioned to Sky Sports in Canada that Daniel's beginning of the year has been inconsistent.
"He understands that he must perform. He was aware that his efforts weren't sufficient to earn a spot on the senior team for the upcoming year."
Horner acknowledged that Ricciardo needs to put in the effort to maintain his position, as Red Bull junior drivers Liam Lawson and Formula 2 leader Isack Hadjar are eager to seize any available opportunity.
"There is no rush," Horner commented regarding the timeline for deciding on the second seat.
"We have Daniel, who clearly possesses a wealth of experience. I believe it’s undeniable that his expertise has significantly aided Yuki, providing valuable engineering guidance that has been truly beneficial."
"We have some impressive young talent emerging in Formula 2, including Isack Hadjar, who is close to making his mark."
Ricciardo will need to put in a significant effort to keep his position, assuming that is his goal.
"Liam Lawson is also a crucial part of the team. He’s eager and closely follows every session. We are aware of his potential. This creates constant pressure on the current drivers."
