The European Parliament hosted the Eurovision debate featuring key candidates for the European Commission president position on Thursday afternoon.
Walter Baier from Austria representing the European Left, Sandro Gozi from Italy affiliated with Renew Europe Now, Ursula von der Leyen from Germany, a member of the European People’s Party, Terry Reintke also from Germany and part of the European Greens, along with Nicolas Schmit from Luxembourg, associated with the Party of European Socialists, were all participants in a discussion. This event was set up by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), working together with European political factions and the European Parliament.
The discussion centered around various key topics including Economic Growth and Employment, National Defense and Safety, Environmental and Climate Concerns, Governance and Leadership, Immigration and Border Control, and Advances in Science and Technology.
Inquiries came from attendees in the main hall, from individuals attending gatherings hosted by the Parliament's Liaison Offices across EU countries, through submissions on social media platforms, and from the two hosts. Additionally, the candidates underwent individual interrogation by the hosts in the designated "Spotlight" sections.
The debate is available for replay on the Multimedia Centre of Parliament and the EBU website.
