Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season. This news was confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, who is the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who started working with Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very difficult" decision to make. He mentioned that this move is part of the American team's efforts to explore a "new direction."
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of discussion. He stated that the decision was made collectively and gave significant praise to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has steadily assembled over the years. Moreover, the core of this team is expected to remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we felt that looking ahead, we needed to explore a new path. On one hand, it's unfortunate, but on the other hand, it's just business."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain. A past 250cc Grand Prix victor, the Dutchman served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
