F1 Driver Ratings at the British Grand Prix: Two Perfect Scores Awarded at Silverstone
Crash.net's ratings of F1 drivers after the 2024 British Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton – 10
Although Russell outperformed Hamilton in the qualifying rounds, Hamilton showcased his expertise during the race, securing his 104th career win. He handled the shifting weather conditions more adeptly than Russell and made a pivotal decision to switch to slick tyres, allowing him to overtake Norris. Moreover, his exceptional management of the soft tyres played a significant role in his victory.
Max Verstappen – 9
Verstappen consistently maximizes the performance of the RB20. Although he was expected to finish in fifth place, he managed to secure second. The strategic decisions were excellent, and Verstappen significantly contributed to them.
Lando Norris – 8.5
Norris faced yet another moment of uncertainty when McLaren chose soft tires instead of medium ones for his final pit stop. Prior to this, he had been driving a commendable race, with McLaren once again performing exceptionally well in variable weather conditions.
Oscar Piastri – 8
Piastri faced a setback beyond his control, as he had to complete an additional lap before switching to dry tires.
Carlos Sainz – 9
Considering Ferrari was the fourth fastest at Silverstone, it’s tough to fault Sainz. He maximized its potential by finishing fifth and securing the fastest lap, which is an impressive way to minimize the damage.
Nico Hulkenberg – 10
Hulkenberg, alongside Hamilton, truly shone this weekend. He managed to out-qualify a Ferrari and finished in sixth place once again. Haas is definitely going to feel his absence when he moves to Sauber next year.
Lance Stroll – 8
Stroll delivered a solid performance, surpassing Alonso during Aston Martin's race at their home circuit.
Fernando Alonso – 7
Alonso's unusual streak of races persisted this weekend, with Stroll outperforming him. Considering Alonso's strong start to the season, Stroll consistently having the upper hand is rather worrisome.
Alex Albon – 8
Albon had a standout performance this weekend, with Williams showing strong form before their home crowd. They secured two important points, distancing themselves from Sauber in the battle for ninth place in the constructors’ championship.
Yuki Tsunoda – 7.5
Tsunoda had a notably strong weekend, managing to earn a point. He consistently outperformed Ricciardo.
Logan Sargeant – 7
Sargeant experienced one of his stronger weekends in Formula 1, just barely failing to reach Q3 and then competing for a top 10 position during the race.
Kevin Magnussen – 5.5
Magnussen didn’t live up to expectations this weekend, especially when compared to Hulkenberg's performance. He was eliminated in the first qualifying session and later lost a position to Sargeant during the race. It was a tough Sunday for Magnussen as he struggles to secure his place in Formula 1.
Daniel Ricciardo – 6
Ricciardo lagged behind Tsunoda during the British Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc – 5.5
Leclerc experienced yet another weekend of misfortune. He was eliminated in Q2 following an ill-timed change to intermediate tires. Despite Ferrari being the fourth quickest team at Silverstone, Leclerc must concentrate on minimizing the negative impact.
Valtteri Bottas – 6
For the first time, Bottas was outperformed by Zhou in a standard qualifying session, unable to enhance his time as the conditions improved late in Q1. During the race, he maintained a low profile, beginning on medium tires before transitioning to intermediates and then back to dry tires at the optimal moments.
Esteban Ocon – 6
It was a tough weekend for Alpine, with Ocon expressing regret over several strategic choices made during qualifying. The situation didn't improve during the race, as he was among the drivers who switched to intermediate tires prematurely.
Sergio Perez – 3
Perez's streak of poor performances persisted at Silverstone, marked by another early elimination in Q1. This incident was caused by a mishap at Copse during an out-lap. Similar to Leclerc, an early change to intermediate tires did not yield positive results, leading to him being lapped twice.
Zhou Guanyu – 5.5
For the first time this season, excluding sprint qualifying sessions, Zhou managed to out-qualify his teammate Bottas. However, beginning the race on soft tires didn’t play to his advantage, as he quickly fell down the rankings before being compelled to make a
George Russell – 8
Russell delivered an outstanding performance during qualifying, securing the third pole position in his career. Although he appeared to be in control during dry weather, he fell behind as the race went on, further hindered by having to wait behind Hamilton when they changed to intermediate tires.
Pierre Gasly – Not Applicable
Due to Gasly's remarkable 50-place grid penalty and his Did Not Start (DNS) status at Silverstone, evaluating his weekend performance is unfeasible.
