Bidding War Escalates for Adrian Newey’s Genius as Hamilton-Newey Dream Team at Ferrari Falls Through
Competition heats up between two squads for Adrian Newey, though a partnership with Lewis Hamilton is dismissed
Recent reports indicate that two teams are at the forefront of the race to secure Adrian Newey
According to recent reports, the much-anticipated collaboration between Adrian Newey and Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari will not happen next year.
The competition to secure Newey's expertise remains intense within the F1 paddock, but according to F1.com, Ferrari has withdrawn from contention.
Ferrari was initially considered the top contender to secure Newey, the departing chief technology officer from Red Bull.
This collaboration could have led to a partnership with Hamilton, whom Newey has openly expressed his disappointment about not having the opportunity to work with in the past.
Despite Hamilton donning red in 2025, the report indicates that "Newey appears not to be moving to Italy."
Tug-of-war between two teams
Aston Martin and Alpine are identified as the competing F1 teams vying for Newey's involvement.
McLaren had earlier dismissed their involvement, whereas Mercedes was never seriously considered.
"F1.com has reported that Aston Martin is reportedly at the forefront of the competition, as observed at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix in Monza."
Last weekend at Zandvoort, team owner Lawrence Stroll quickly dismissed a bold inquiry from Sky Sports' Martin Brundle regarding the acquisition of Newey.
Stroll has appointed Andy Cowell, previously with Mercedes, as CEO, and Enrico Cardile, formerly of Ferrari, as the chief technical officer.
Besides Aston Martin's fresh Silverstone headquarters and their collaboration with Honda starting in 2026, the team's appeal is evident.
However, Aston Martin is up against competition from another prominent figure in Formula 1.
Flavio Briatore, who has recently taken up the role of executive advisor at Alpine, is eager to recruit Newey to Enstone, according to F1.com.
"Briatore has previously stated that signing F1's most outstanding car designer is within the realm of possibility."
Newey's schedule in the upcoming year offers him the opportunity to impact the design of the 2026 vehicle for his latest company, providing them a significant advantage in the competition for technological advancement.
