The Times published a photo showing Johnny Mercer working on his laptop while traveling, which was taken by a fellow passenger.
The photo, captured on May 6, sparked backlash online when users saw the veterans minister barefoot, prompting even the prime minister to plan a discussion with him.

When queried on Wednesday about the appropriateness of removing shoes and socks on a train, the prime minister's spokesperson responded negatively.
