Bagnaia Steers Clear of Rossi-Marquez Controversy, Focuses on the Future
Francesco Bagnaia chooses to remain neutral regarding Valentino Rossi's recent remarks about Marc Marquez
"I wasn't competing in MotoGP at that time, and I prefer to stay out of it since it's not of interest to me."
Francesco Bagnaia has stated his intention to stay neutral and not get involved in any potential conflicts between his mentor Valentino Rossi and his soon-to-be Ducati teammate Marc Marquez.
In a recent podcast appearance, Rossi reignited debate over a contentious moment in MotoGP lore, asserting his belief that Marquez intentionally aided Jorge Lorenzo in the closing stages of the 2015 season.
In response to inquiries about Rossi's recent comments, just before the Emilia Romagna race this weekend, the two-time defending champion Bagnaia shared his thoughts:
"Frankly, I'm staying away from this… I wasn't competing in MotoGP at that time, and I prefer to keep it that way because it's not of interest to me."
As the 2015 championship battle between Rossi and Lorenzo was approaching its critical moment, Rossi openly charged Marquez with using underhanded tactics right before the second-to-last race in Malaysia. This accusation came shortly after Marquez had overtaken Lorenzo with a dramatic final-lap maneuver at Phillip Island.
Following Rossi's claims, Rossi and Marquez engaged in an intense duel during the initial laps of the Sepang race, eventually leading to an irritated Rossi pushing Marquez off his line.
The Repsol Honda competitor fell off his bike because of the incident, and the additional penalty points given to Rossi, adding to a previous penalty point, led to him beginning at the back of the grid in the final race in Valencia.
Lorenzo ultimately secured the world championship title with a five-point lead.
