Bagnaia Eyes Title Comeback in Misano 2 With Improved Physical Condition and Ducati Poised for Constructors’ Triumph
Francesco Bagnaia: "We have a head start this time around" | Ducati's shot at the title
"I'm in better shape than I was during the first Misano race, giving us a head start compared to our last outing."
Francesco Bagnaia, who finished second in both of his races at 'Misano 1', is in better shape as he approaches this weekend's MotoGP rematch.
The current world champion was dealing with injuries to his upper body, which he got during a collision with Alex Marquez at Aragon, before securing second place finishes in the earlier round at San Marino.
The outcomes, coupled with Jorge Martin's expensive risk during a pit stop, have brought Bagnaia to just seven points behind the leading title contender.
Bagnaia is optimistic that his fitness has gotten better during the two-week hiatus. He feels that the lower temperatures and his top performance in the post-race test suggest that there might still be some surprises at the second Misano race.
"Bagnaia mentioned, "We've returned to compete in Misano for another round this year, yet the circumstances have changed significantly from our race here two weeks ago."
"We're expecting cooler weather, following a day that put us through our paces."
"I'm in improved physical shape compared to the first Misano race, giving us a head start over our previous performance."
"The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix marks the beginning of three consecutive races. As the season accelerates towards its climax, securing good results in this phase of the Championship becomes increasingly crucial."
Ducati is close to clinching its fifth straight MotoGP constructors’ championship
Even as the competition for the riders’ championship remains wide open, Ducati is poised to secure its fifth successive MotoGP constructors’ championship, with six races left following this weekend.
Ducati has only faced defeat in a single grand prix and three Sprints this season, currently leading KTM by 229 points and Aprilia by 239 points. If Ducati maintains a lead of at least 222 points by Sunday, they will be unbeatable in mathematical terms.
Bagnaia, alongside his colleague Enea Bastianini, aims to secure Ducati's 100th win in MotoGP during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Starting from eighth position, Bastianini climbed to a third-place finish at the San Marino GP, utilizing a soft rear tire. He now believes he has found the right configuration for using a medium rear tire.
"After the race, we discovered a strategy that enabled me to achieve high speeds using the rear medium tyre, a component we lacked in Misano 1 to compete for the victory," he mentioned.
"I'm eager to find out what this weekend has in store, but overall, I have a hopeful outlook."
Bastianini trails the victor of the San Marino Grand Prix, Marc Marquez, by nine points, as Marquez moves back into third place in the global championship standings
