Aston Martin Hesitates on Adrian Newey’s Hefty £25m Salary Demand Amidst F1 Tech Genius Recruitment Talks
Aston Martin hesitates over "speculation" regarding Adrian Newey's demand for a salary in the tens of millions
Aston Martin is interested in Adrian Newey, but "not at any cost"
Negotiations for Adrian Newey to move to Aston Martin are said to be stymied by his salary demands.
The next step for the F1 technology mastermind is available, and competitors of Red Bull are gathering around.
The Telegraph has disclosed that Newey requested a £25 million annual salary to join Aston Martin.
They assert that number represents only 50% of his initial request.
Lawrence Stroll, the wealthy leader of the F1 team, hesitated over the financial aspects of the suggested agreement. Additionally, according to the report, Aston Martin is keen on hiring Red Bull's top technical officer, but they are not willing to do so regardless of the cost.
Recently, The Telegraph reported that Newey received a walkthrough of the team's latest facility in Silverstone.
Aston Martin declined to make specific remarks about Newey, but a representative conveyed to The Times, the first to report Newey's visit to the Silverstone headquarters: “The Aston Martin Aramco F1 initiative is highly attractive due to Lawrence Stroll’s ambitious plans, the cutting-edge technology campus, and significant collaborations with Aramco and Honda.
"Several prominent members from various sectors of the team are associated with the initiative, though we have no updates to share at this moment."
Dan Fallows has transitioned from Red Bull to becoming the technical director for Stroll's squad at Aston Martin.
Stroll is eager to secure a marquee signing as F1 approaches its upcoming era.
In 2026, the latest rules present an opportunity to emerge as the leading power in the sport.
There's a strong consensus that by having Newey as part of the team, his employers will significantly increase their chances of leading the pack.
Newey is set to depart from Red Bull at the beginning of next year, providing him with the opportunity to supervise the 2026 design for any team he decides to join.
Even though Aston Martin has been in touch with him and discussed his pay, he has alternative opportunities.
Ferrari, set to embrace Lewis Hamilton as part of their team next year, has maintained a longstanding fascination.
Both McLaren and Williams have been recognized for their interest in acquiring Newey.
