Aragon MotoGP Drama: Binder Battles Burnouts, Miller Outpaced by Rins in Thrilling Weekend
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I did another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned, “Rins got ahead of me.”
Brad Binder shared, "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning my tires at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
This occurred despite him veering off course in both competitions, although his seventh-place finish came from the more favorable side of a cluttered starting lineup.
Throughout the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly out of range.
“Last night, I came up with an excellent strategy to avoid losing control at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!” Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated my way through and overtook several riders. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire overheated while trailing others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating quickly out of the corners since I wasn't able to enter them at high speed due to the front tire overheating. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
“I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was nothing left behind!”
“Overall, we made significant progress this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race.”
Teammate Jack Miller had a strong start, moving from 15th place on the grid to 8th by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced issues with rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing his ninth-place position, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tire pressure violations, which ultimately placed him in 15th position.
"That was quite a lengthy race," remarked Miller. "The track conditions changed once more; it was mostly dirty over the weekend but appeared to be more slippery today."
"I gave it my all. It was really tough to manage the medium rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside moment as I was exiting the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish safely."
"There weren't any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to put in the effort."
“I’m pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be precise, but unfortunately, I didn't get a good drive and he was able to outpace me down the back stretch.”
"We'll return to Misano."
Test rider Pol Espargaro will join the KTM team as a wild-card entry, increasing their lineup to five riders for this weekend.
"Next, head to Misano, keeping in mind the subsequent test and Pol’s wildcard, which will provide us with some future assistance," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
