Anthony Hamilton’s Insight: Lewis Hamilton’s Mastery Secures Historic Ninth British GP Win
Anthony Hamilton delivers decisive opinion on Lewis Hamilton's British Grand Prix victory in Formula 1.
Anthony Hamilton shares his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton's triumph at the British Grand Prix.
Anthony Hamilton, father of Lewis Hamilton, is of the opinion that his son had complete command of the British Grand Prix after taking the lead during the last round of pit stops.
Hamilton secured his first victory since 2021, triumphing at his home Grand Prix for the ninth time in his Formula 1 career.
The seven-time world champion made a vital move by pitting for slick tires one lap before Lando Norris, who was leading the race at that moment.
This enabled Hamilton to secure a favorable position on the track, after which he fended off a last-minute surge from Max Verstappen to achieve his 104th victory.
Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony, has been a crucial part of the Mercedes driver's journey from his early days in kart racing.
In an interview with Sky Sports following Hamilton's victory, Anthony remarked, “Can you believe that? There was no way he was letting go of that lead. You only needed to look at the lap times."
"Bit by bit, Lewis was gaining time—no matter the circumstances, he was completely in charge. With the tyres he had, there was no chance he would let that victory escape him, especially in front of the British fans. That determination was his driving force."
Hamilton secured his ninth victory before his home fans at Silverstone in his most recent race.
In 2008, he achieved his initial victory under hazardous conditions, finishing more than 50 seconds ahead.
Due to the shift in weather, Anthony believed that Hamilton was "at his best" on Sunday.
"I'm always aware of it because I can always sense it," he continued. "Ultimately, Lewis finished in second place yesterday. He felt let down, saying 'I could have performed better' after the qualifying round."
"He returns to his place, regroups, and then reappears. It's clear he's thought everything through."
“He’s been patient, anticipating a shift in circumstances. Now that things have changed, he’s thriving.”
He said, "This is fantastic for the team and the people of Britain. It's hard to believe—I was driving through the crowd, and there were people in shorts and t-shirts. They're expecting typical British weather, but they're still here, not grumbling, just excited for an amazing weekend."
"How proud are we to offer this to them? It's significant for the British audience and also beneficial for motorsport as a whole, right?"
