Alpine F1 Team’s Operations Director Rob White Exits Amid Strategic Overhaul and Seasonal Struggles
Experienced operations chief Rob White departs from the troubled Alpine F1 squad
Experienced operations chief Rob White has left Alpine in the midst of their challenges throughout the 2024 F1 campaign.
According to a BBC Sport report, 58-year-old White, a 20-year veteran at Enstone, was formally dismissed from his role, which he had occupied since 2016, by Alpine team principal Bruno Famin on Wednesday.
A representative from Alpine communicated to Crash.net that, in line with the broader organizational changes within the team, Rob White's exit has been confirmed.
The group expresses gratitude towards Rob for his dedication throughout his extensive tenure at both Enstone and Viry-Chatillon. His leadership on the engine project that clinched the championship in 2005 and 2006 is especially appreciated. We extend our best wishes for his success in all upcoming projects.
White's dismissal is the most recent in a string of internal shifts at Alpine following a rocky beginning to the current F1 season.
The French team's season started poorly due to a misguided decision in car design. This misstep resulted in the exits of technical director Matt Harman and head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer after the Bahrain Grand Prix in March.
Shortly after, design engineer Bob Bell departed the team to take up a position with Aston Martin.
After a short period working with McLaren, ex-Ferrari engineer David Sanchez was recruited in May as part of Famin's introduction of a revamped technical framework consisting of three main parts.
Alpine has experienced a series of notable exits throughout the past year, including the ousting of CEO Laurent Rossi by Renault's head Luca de Meo in July.
Alpine saw the departure of team principal Otmar Szafnauer and the experienced sporting director Alan Permane, both of whom left the team before the Belgian Grand Prix took place last year.
Having secured a sixth-place finish in 2023, Alpine has only accumulated two points this season, positioning them in ninth place in the constructors' standings.
Pierre Gasly's achievement of securing the 10th position in the recent Monaco Grand Prix was eclipsed by an incident involving his teammate Esteban Ocon, who received a five-place grid penalty for the upcoming race in Canada following their collision.
