Alex Marquez Denies Intentional Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘Not in My DNA’
Alex Marquez denies claims: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider.”
Alex Marquez dismisses allegations that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It's not in my nature and it's not a part of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following his collision with Francesco Bagnaia during the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The two riders were caught in a serious collision when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was required because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks made by Bagnaia, which imply that the Gresini racer maintained his throttle position instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that just as he approached turn 13, he could hear the other rider accelerating, indicating that the rider was attempting to make contact.
"I wanted to examine that information… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such actions are not part of who I am, nor are they part of the essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was crucial for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in top form for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without severe injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race, while Jorge Martin's second-place finish extends his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
