Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations After Aragon MotoGP Incident with Bagnaia
Alex Marquez addresses accusations: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez denies all claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "It's not in my nature, nor in the nature of this sport."
Alex Marquez issued a response after encountering certain comments following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia during Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race.
The duo was caught in a severe crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini rider maintained his throttle instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that the moment he approached the next turn, corner 13, he could hear the other rider revving up. It was clear to him that the rider was accelerating, aiming for contact.
“I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment of the crash. This behavior is very unusual for a rider, in my opinion.”
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I wish to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another competitor, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is not part of my nature, nor is it part of the ethos of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was crucial for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is now resolved."
"Now it's time to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major harm and are set to race again at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
