Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘Not in My DNA or the Sport’s
Alex Marquez addresses the allegations, stating, "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez dismisses claims that he intentionally caused an incident with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting that such actions are against both his nature and the principles of the sport.
In light of recent comments following the Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez has issued a public response.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was required as they found that 'neither rider was chiefly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased by Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"When I reached turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, clearly aiming to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent all the way until he crashed. This seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several comments, I feel it is necessary to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I cannot accept being accused of such an act. It goes against my principles and the essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now I need to take some time to rest and recuperate so that I'm fully ready for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
