Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia in Aragon MotoGP Incident
Alex Marquez states firmly: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez denies allegations that he purposefully collided with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting, "Such actions are not part of my nature, nor are they reflective of the principles of this sport."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia at Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because 'neither rider was found to be chiefly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia’s remarks, which implied that the Gresini rider did not close the throttle to prevent a collision.
"Bagnaia told MotoGP.com that when he approached the next corner, he could hear the other rider accelerating, indicating that the rider was attempting to make contact."
"I wanted to examine the data… He maintained a throttle position of 60 percent open, 40 percent closed right up until the point of the crash. This seems very unusual behavior for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
“I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such actions. It goes against my principles and the very ethos of this sport.”
"The crucial aspect for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to take a break and rejuvenate my body so I can be at full strength for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is Alex's team-mate and brother, secured the victory. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
