Adrian Newey’s Astonishing Move: Set to Join Aston Martin as Official Announcement Looms
Adrian Newey has reportedly agreed to join Aston Martin, with an official announcement anticipated next week.
Renowned Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey has reportedly agreed to move to Aston Martin, with an official announcement anticipated to come by the start of next week, according to sources.
According to Craig Slater of Sky Sports News, the 65-year-old British individual, who is often considered the most accomplished Formula 1 car designer ever, has finalized an agreement on personal terms to become part of Aston Martin's initiative.
In May, it was announced that Newey would be leaving his position as the top technical executive at Red Bull, prompting a scramble among teams to hire him when he's free to join in early 2025.
Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams reportedly showed interest in acquiring Newey, however, Aston Martin seems to have persuaded him. The announcement of the agreement is anticipated to occur next Tuesday, just before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
"Slater mentioned that, from what he knows, Adrian Newey has agreed to join the Formula 1 team located at Silverstone, and that team is Aston Martin."
"It's anticipated that we'll receive formal verification of his transfer to the team by the beginning of next week. To be more specific, probably by next Tuesday, given that Aston Martin has scheduled a press briefing for that day. It would be logical for them to introduce Adrian Newey then, just before the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix."
Newey is bound by specific commitments to his present employer, Red Bull, which restrict his ability to make any future career decisions or join another team until September 6.
"From what I gather, it seems he has reached an agreement on personal terms with Aston Martin for some time now."
Slater disclosed that an undisclosed tour of Aston Martin's cutting-edge Silverstone site earlier in the summer played a pivotal role in persuading Newey to become part of Lawrence Stroll's enterprising initiative.
"Slater mentioned that Newey's decision to join Aston Martin might have been influenced by his visit to the Silverstone factory. There, he was introduced to the latest additions, such as the new wind tunnel and simulator, along with other cutting-edge equipment aimed at propelling the team to the top of F1. This experience possibly tilted his preference towards Aston Martin over his other choices, which included Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams."
"The notion that he could have teamed up with Lewis Hamilton to form an ideal pairing at Ferrari, thereby assisting Lewis in securing his eighth world title, would have held significant emotional appeal for fans of British Formula 1."
"The key issue at hand is determining the speed at which his integration into Aston Martin will transform them into contenders for the world championship. Furthermore, there's curiosity around whether Newey can expand on his impressive tally of 25 world championships, a number that might rise to 27 this year should Red Bull secure another double victory."
