Zarco Reflects on Honda’s Struggles: Revising Expectations Amid Bleak MotoGP Results
Johann Zarco acknowledges that Honda's aspirations have shifted following a series of disappointing performances.
Johann Zarco stated, "Upon joining LCR, my initial belief was that securing a position within the top ten was attainable, however, I've come to realize that was a mistake."
Johann Zarco has stated that Honda's poor performance has led them to reevaluate their objectives for the 2024 MotoGP campaign.
Zarco, together with his Honda teammates Joan Mir, Luca Marini, and Takaaki Nakagami, have spent a significant portion of the 2024 season battling it out towards the back of the pack.
In the Assen Grand Prix, Zarco emerged as the leading Honda rider, finishing in 13th position. Yet, he was more than 42 seconds behind the race winner, Francesco Bagnaia.
"Upon joining the LCR team, I was optimistic about securing a top ten finish, yet that belief was mistaken," Zarco admitted to GPOne.
"Currently, we're competing without specific objectives, driven solely by a desire to explore and test. Perhaps by the season's conclusion, breaking into the top ten could become attainable."
"Certainly, aiming for the podium seems far-fetched. Should we find ourselves contending for the win in 2025, it would truly be unexpected."
As the season commenced, Honda was initially competing with Yamaha, but improvements by their Japanese counterparts have resulted in Honda's racers mostly competing against each other.
Zarco mentioned, "When we compare ourselves to Quartararo, we're still significantly trailing in terms of his achievements, and he's on par with the others who are leading."
"We're engaged in a dual competition. Observing Pecco, the future path appears increasingly evident."
"As cyclists and as a company, we cannot tolerate these circumstances, so we must continue our efforts."
