Yamaha Aims to Secure Alex Rins Amid Major Team Expansion for 2025
Yamaha executive provides significant news regarding Alex Rins’ prospects
Alex Rins’ existing contract with Yamaha is due to end this year
Yamaha and Alex Rins have indicated that they are nearing the finalization of a new agreement to continue their partnership.
The inclusion of Pramac as a satellite team starting in 2025 marks an exciting development in Yamaha's expansion, aiming to reclaim their former dominance in MotoGP.
This implies that there will be three open slots for bikes next year: one for Fabio Quartararo's partner in the main team and two for the Pramac team riders.
The contract for Rins is set to end this year; however, during the upcoming weekend at Assen, he might secure a new deal.
During the Dutch MotoGP, Rins mentioned to Sky Italia, "We are almost there."
Yamaha's managing director, Lin Jarvis, expressed to Sky that they plan to extend their contract with Alex.
"We had a discussion this morning and plan to meet again this evening."
"This is a significant occasion, and we are definitely eager to extend for an additional two years. We'll find out if it's possible."
This season, Rins switched to Yamaha following his stint with LCR Honda last year. During his time with Honda, he secured a victory at the Grand Prix of the Americas but also endured a severe leg fracture.
This season, the highest position he has achieved in a grand prix for Yamaha is 13th place, which he secured in both Portugal and Spain.
However, with a renewed sense of hope around the previously faltering Japanese brand, Rins has swiftly initiated discussions to confirm his spot on the 2025 roster.
