Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the Aprilia satellite project after completing its second season with the Noale brand, which is the team's first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very hard” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to explore “some different direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he had assembled over the years. Moreover, this team is largely going to remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has created."
"As Trackhouse, we considered it necessary to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also a business decision."
“It’s never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision was extremely challenging.”
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Previously a victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutch national served as a team manager for factory Yamaha MotoGP, initially for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
