Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will part ways with Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, a statement made at the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project after the team’s second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a “very difficult” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore “a new direction”.
"This is a matter that we talked over," Brivio stated regarding Zeelenberg's exit. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To tell the truth, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has put together over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of praise for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that looking ahead, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate on one hand, but it's a business decision on the other."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been particularly challenging."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
