Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the project's second season with the Noale brand and its first under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that deciding on Zeelenberg's exit was an "extremely difficult" decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore a "new direction."
Brivio stated that Zeelenberg’s exit was a topic of discussion and a mutual decision. He also praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has accomplished."
“As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we might need to take a different approach. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's just part of the business.”
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. Once a victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
