Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, a revelation made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was originally known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a “very tough” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to explore a “new direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "This was a decision we made together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
“To be frank, when I arrived, I discovered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts.”
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. On one hand, it's disappointing, but on the other hand, it's a business decision."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
Zeelenberg's future remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. He transitioned to the Petronas SRT team as their team manager in 2019.
