Wilco Zeelenberg to Depart Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia when the 2024 season concludes, a revelation made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team at its launch in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project. This change comes after the team's second season associated with the Noale brand and its first under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He noted that this move is part of the team’s effort to explore a “new direction.”
Brivio mentioned, "We talked about Zeelenberg leaving and decided on it together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year as well, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that it was necessary to explore a new path for the future. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's a business decision in others."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at the moment. The Dutchman, who once claimed victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, has experience as a team manager for both Jorge Lorenzo and Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, continuing his role as team manager.
