Wilco Zeelenberg to Depart Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first launched as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, which is also its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that deciding on Zeelenberg’s exit was a "very difficult" decision. He added that this move is a part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore a "new direction".
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure had been a topic of discussion. He stated that the decision was mutually made and gave significant praise to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he has developed over the years. Additionally, most of the team will remain the same next year, which speaks volumes about what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we might need to explore a different path. While it’s unfortunate on one hand, it’s a business decision on the other."
“This is never an easy scenario, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging.”
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
