Wilco Zeelenberg Set to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024. The confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team once the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse in early 2024, expressed that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to explore “some different direction”.
“We had a conversation about Zeelenberg leaving,” Brivio stated. “We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions.
To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had meticulously developed over the years. Moreover, this team will largely remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts in building it.
"At Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. While it is disappointing in some ways, it is also a business decision."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
Zeelenberg's upcoming plans remain uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team to take on the role of team manager.
