VR46 Eyes Factory-Spec Ducati Deal for 2025 as Pramac Switches Allegiance to Yamaha in MotoGP Shuffle
VR46 aims for a top-tier 'Pramac' Ducati by 2025
With Pramac moving over to Yamaha, VR46 is focusing on acquiring the third factory Ducati spot for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Pramac's transition from Ducati to Yamaha in the upcoming MotoGP season opens up the opportunity for either VR46 or Gresini to acquire the factory-spec Desmosedicis that Pramac will no longer be using.
Regrettably for all involved, the general manager of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, has disclosed that Pramac's departure will lead to a reduction in the number of factory-spec motorcycles.
"Dall'Igna mentioned to Sky Italia that the aim is to maintain a lineup of three new official bikes alongside three from the preceding year."
To put it differently, out of Ducati’s four independent riders for the upcoming season, just a single individual will be alongside Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, racing on factory-spec motorcycles designed for 2025.
VR46 rejected Yamaha's proposal, aiming instead to strengthen its relationship with Ducati, and is now focused on clinching the GP25.
"A source from the VR46 team shared with Crash.net that this is their goal and what they are striving to achieve."
VR46 had been in pursuit of factory-level motorcycles for Marco Bezzecchi, yet the emerging Italian talent has now inked a deal to join Aprilia as a factory rider starting in 2025.
Fabio di Giannantonio, a teammate of Marc Marquez, has become his main competitor in the GP23 series. However, there are speculations that he might be joining the newly established Pramac Yamaha team, which will be equipped with factory M1 motorcycles.
Nonetheless, could the GP25s from the factory be sufficient to retain the Qatar 2023 victor alongside VR46 following Ducati's departure of other champions such as Martin, Enea Bastianini, and Bezzecchi?
At Assen last Sunday, Di Giannantonio achieved his highest finish of the season, securing fourth place, thanks in part to penalties given to Marquez and Maverick Vinales. Currently sitting in eighth in the world championship standings, Diggia is on track for his most successful MotoGP season yet.
"Di Giannantonio expressed enthusiasm about the successful weekend they had at Assen as they looked forward to the upcoming race in Germany."
"We're performing excellently, I'm content, and we're riding a strong wave of success. With two races scheduled over the next two weeks, let's maintain our pace and aim for another outstanding race to showcase our capabilities."
However, VR46 could be in the position of having to secure a position for Franco Morbidelli, who is presently with Pramac, as Ducati looks for a spot for Fermin Aldeguer.
Gresini has just a single seat open, to replace Marc Marquez, as Alex has already secured his spot for an additional two years.
